Japanese Culture

What do you think about japanese people?

The first impression they gave me is that they are well-mannered. I learned this from the Japanese dramas, せんせい and にほんご. When we learn Japanese, we learn that we have to use different ways to talk with people. As an example, when we greet people who are more senior than us, we must use おはいようございます rather that おはいよう. But when we talk with juniors and people who are same age with us, we can use おはいよう. These shows that Japanese use a more formal way in language to elder people to express their respects.

We can noticed their well-mannered from their greetings. They have to greet いただきますeverytime before they start their meal and ごちそうさまでしたwhen they finish eating. They also have to greet everytime they go out and come back. As i know, juniors have to call seniors as せんぱい. They cannot called their seniors' names directly. This is because it is rude to call seniors' names directly.

Besides that, i'm sure that through Japanese dramas, you have noticed that they bow 90 degrees everytime when they first meet new people and say sorry when they made mistakes. These scenes always shown in Japanese dramas no matter it is in their working place or happen between couples, friends, etc... They bow 90 degrees to show their respectful. Almost all Japanese dramas have this scenes. Examples of the dramas are "Change", "A True Love Story", and etc... In my opinion, Japanese are trained to be well-mannered since they were born. They learned that from their parents and teachers. I think that well-mannered is a Japanese culture that are regconised by all people around the world. They are famous with their well-mannered.

Apart from that, i learned from せんせい that in Japan's restaurant, when people want to smoke they have to ask permission from the people sitting at the table beside him/her. But i don't think people in other countries will do so. These show that they are really good in their manner no matter between parents, friends, or even strangers.

They view punctuality as one of the important elements in their daily lives. They take punctuality as one of the ways to show respect to others. In my beliefs, i think that Japanese will regconise a person as well-mannered if he/she takes punctuality as a habit. They do not like people to be late. My せんせい always goes to the lecture on time, she does not like her students to be late to lecture. She will take actions on those who are late to the lecture.

Thus, i strongly believe that Japanese are well-mannered. How about you? Do you think that Japanese nowadays still cultivate this value?
